NEW DELHI: Supporting the central government’s ban on single-use plastic, former Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel distributed cloth bags at Palika Baazar in central Delhi.
Goel said the city’s youth supported his campaign and pledged to convince their families to discard plastic and use cloth bags instead.
“PM Narendra Modi has made ‘no to plastic’ a jan aandalon the same way he picked up broom for Swachchh Bharat,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.
He cited CPCB report that claimed India generates approximately 26,000 tonnes of plastic waste daily, of which 43% was single-use. “Plastic not only chokes drains, but is responsible for heavy pollution and causes death of animals and damages the environment,” he said.
The BJP leader said he would soon involve the public school associations in the campaign and urge them to spread this message through students. Goel also appealed LG and chief minister to help spread PM’s “no to plastic” message through Delhi government schools. He urged the motorists to follow the rules to avoid paying heavy fines and called for creating awareness about traffic regulations.
