In pursuance of its commitment to ensure accountable and transparent administration in Delhi, a Delhi BJP delegation led by the state unit president Shri Vijay Goel today called on the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and urged him to take necessary steps for setting up an Accountability Commission for Delhi immediately.
The Accountability Commission will ensure that where ever tax payers money is wasted due to delay or irregularities in projects, the minister and the officials concerned are held accountable.
Addressing a joint press conference today along with the Mayors and leaders of MCDs after meeting the LG, Shri Goel said, “The BJP wants an accountable administration in Delhi and with this objective in mind, the party is asking for setting up of the Accountability Commission. The Commission will look into all the cases of corruption and irregularities in delivering services to people in the last 15 years.”
Outlining the concept of Accountability Commission proposed by Dellhi BJP, Shri Goel said, Accountability Commission shall be an anti-corruption watch-dog and the nodal agency for combating corruption in the entire machinery of governance. It will look into all the complaints of corruption and to inquire into the grievances and allegations against public functionaries including the ministers.
The Accountability Commission will address the complaints and grievances of people with regard to delivery of services to people within stipulated time. It will also look into the cases of corruption or any other irregularity in delivering the services to people.
It would be statutory body that will look into the complaints or irregularities pointed out by the CAG, PAC, Vigilance Commission and also Lokayukta. It would be headed by a retired High Court judge or a person of proven impeccable integrity.
Shri Goel has already written letters to the Honourable Lieutenant Governor, the Delhi Chief Minister and the three Mayors of MCD urging them to take steps for setting up of the Accountability Commission.
“The Delhi government has been functioning as if no one is responsible for anything. No one is being held accountable for wrongdoings resulting into lots of hardship for the common populace living in Delhi. Accountability Commission will look into all the cases of corruption in the last 15 years,” Shri Goel said.
Shri Goel said, “Under the prevailing circumstances, setting up of an Accountability Commission is a necessity that should not be delayed on any pretext whatsoever. The Accountability Commission has done a tremendous work in several countries across the globe from New Zealand to Mexico.”
Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, China, South Korea, Thailand, Peru, Mexico, Bulgaria and many other countries have shown the way with Accountability Commission in combating corruption and delivering services to people in their respective countries.
People have hugely benefited from the Accountability Commission in these countries as their complaints are addressed and grievances resolved by the Accountability Commission to their satisfaction.
“Why cannot we take a clue from the successful functioning of the Accountability Commission in these countries and set up the Accountability Commission for Delhi, and restore people’s faith in the functioning of the institutions of government,” asked Shri Goel.
The Delhi BJP delegation that met Lieutenant Governor comprised Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Azad Singh, Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Smt. Sarita Chaudhary, Mayor of East Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Ram Narayan Dubey, Leader of the House of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Subhash Arya, Leader of the House of North Delhi Municipal Corporation Dr. Mahinder Nagpal and Leader of the House of East Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri B B Tyagi among others.
