NEW DELHI: BJP MP Vijay Goel on Sunday said that the condition of cooperative group housing societies in the capital had become “deplorable” and they required immediate redevelopment. Goel said LG Anil Baijal had already asked DDA to begin a survey of all cooperative group housing societies in Delhi and make necessary amendments in the policy. He was addressing a gathering of officerbearers and residents of several housing societies at Delhi’s first Mahasammelan for Group Housing Societies at Talkatora Stadium.
The former Delhi BJP chief claimed that more than 10 lakh people lived in over 1,200 CGHS in the capital and had been demanding redevelopment for many years now. The Mahasammelan was also an attempt to bring Delhi’s middle class on to BJP’s side ahead of the assembly polls due early next year.
Addressing the gathering, Goel said the preparatory survey would determine the present condition of the housing societies and flats, plot size, status of civic amenities, and issues faced by residents in converting plots to freehold, among other things.
Goel said he had a meeting with the LG a few days ago and it was decided that the societies would undergo redevelopment if at least 66% of its members agree to it. “The entire redevelopment will be carried out on a self-sustainable model and not a single penny will be charged from the residents,” Goel said.
