New Delhi, March 26, 2023: Union Commerce Minister Shri Piyush Goel, Gandhi Darshan Vice Chairman and former Union Minister Vijay Goel, Shri Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi Pradesh President and Diana Mikavicien, Ambassador of Lithuania to India flagged off G-20 youth slum race organized by Gandhi Darshan from Amardev Public School, Model Town on March 26, 2023 in a grand event that saw the participation of over 2000 children from over 15 slums of Model Town and surrounding areas.
The run started from Priyadarshini Park Derawal Nagar near Amar Dev Public School and concluded at Mahaveer Senior Secondary Model School, covering a distance of 2.5 kms.
Addressing the gathering Piyush Goyal said, “Youth has tremendous energy and they must use it to transform India into “New India” which is the dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.
Piyush Goyal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a mantra for the youth, Kheloge to Khiloge. This slogan has been a major factor in changing the perception of the game in the country over the years.
Vijay Goel said that the unique thing about this race is every participating child was given a gold medal with the photo of Mahatma Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a T-shirt, on which a photo of Gandhi ji was printed.
Vijay Goel also said that more such race would be organized in future.
Goel said that the children living in slums have to be encouraged and Gandhiji's ideas have to be propagated in them. On this occasion children also took the oath to do good deeds like being clean and keeping their slum areas clean, respect their parents, brush their teeth and so on.
Addressing the participants Goel said, “Our aim is to provide the youth of slum something positive so that they do not take to drugs or other anti-social activities.
Vijay Goel also said that Prime Minister Modi of India, Narendra Modi has become the President of the organization of G20 group of nations, which is a matter of pride for us and this Yuva Slum Daud is also a celebration of this proud moment.
Vijay Goel further said that this is the first time that such a large number of children are participating in the G20 Youth Slum Run organized by 'Gandhi Darshan'. He said that the purpose of this run is to bring forward the children living in slums and to inculcate the spirit of Prime Minister's mantra 'Kheloge to Khiloge'.
Vijay Goyal also presented medals to all the participating children on the occasion.
Addressing the participants, Goel said: “This is not just any other run but we are running for a better tomorrow, a New India where each youngster utilises his/her skills for nation building.”
Vijay Goel said that the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always encouraged young players to utilize their skills in sports and shine. He said that these events enable us to gather the youth and know about their skills and ideas.
Children from the slums presented colourful cultural programs on the occasion. Artists from Sangeet Natak Akademi kept the audience mesmerized with their stunning performances. Yoga performance by children from Mahaveer Sr. Model School was another attraction of the programme.
Among other guests, Mahaveer Sr. Model School's principal Ruchika Sukhija, Shri S L Jain, Shri Satpal Bhatia, Shri Sanjay Mittal and others were present on the occasion.
