The community center in Sector 12, Dwarka was today named Shaheed Mohan Chand Sharma Community Center after slain Delhi Police officer Mohan Chand Sharma who lost his life in an anti-terrorist operation in September 2008 following the Delhi serial blasts. The community center which comes under the South Delhi Zone of the SDMC, was inaugurated by Delhi State BJP President Vijay Goel. Paying homage to the Late officer Goel said, "no Delhite can ever forget the martyrdom of Mohan Chand Sharma who lost his life in the operation against terrorists hiding in Batla House in the Jamia Nagar locality. It is sad that petty political considerations have worked to discredit the operation."
The presence of the slain officer's family lent a special poignance to the inaugural function which saw the presence of Subhash Arya, leader of the house in SDMC and Standing Committee Chairman Rajesh Gehlot.
Voicing the local residents' concerns Goel added, "Dwarka is known to be the largest group co-operative housing township in Asia but the Delhi government has been giving it step-motherly treatment." He announced that within the next ten days SDMC will have installed a semi high mast light, four benches and swings for children in each of the residential societies. He reminded his audience that five fully air-conditioned banquet halls have recently been commissioned in the area.
Agreeing that the Delhi Government treats Co-operative group housing societies as a second rate organization Mr. Goel pointed out that the society pays the highest rates for electricity bills for street lights and common area lights while in other areas the government itself foots the bill. Even for the booster pumps used for pumping water in the multi-storied buildings, the CGHS society pays five to six times the normal rate for electricity.
Goel pointed out that the SDMC has no right to levy house tax from this society since it uses its own funds to maintain its parks and common areas but the SDMC has its hands tied since the public representatives are not allowed to use their LADS funds here. He appealed to the LG that elected public representatives be allowed to use their LADS funds here. Shri Goel assured that BJP on coming to power in Delhi we will ensure that CGHS will be given facilities as par with rest of Delhi and will make them world class living societies in this regard Shri Goel assured that BJP will release a comprehensive white paper on issues relating to Co-operative group housing societies.
