Rajya Sabha MP and Former BJP Delhi President Shri Vijay Goel urged Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri Najeeb Jung to declare Chhath Puja, a public holiday in Delhi. Shri Goel is committed to his stand for demanding a public holiday on Chhath Puja and has repeatedly made this demand. He will now meet Home Minister Shri Rajnath Singh regarding the same.
In a letter to LG, Shri Goel said, “Chhath Puja in Delhi witnesses participation from lakhs of people especially purvanchalis. Declaring Chhath Puja a public holiday will help lakhs of purvanchalis and people of Delhi, to celebrate their festival without any work stress”.
With an absence of Government in Delhi, Lieutenant Governor Shri Najeeb Jung should ensure necessary arrangements are made and that the administration provides all the help for smooth conduct of the festival in the city. Lakhs of devotees throng Yamuna during festivals like Chhath Puja, Ganesh Chaturthi etc. We must ensure proper safety around the ghats to avoid any possible mishaps. Last year, Delhi witnessed a tragic episode when several people drowned and were left injured on the banks of Yamuna.
Shri Goel said, “Safety at the ghats, deployment of sufficient number of police personnel, life guards, ambulance, transport facility, traffic management measures for safety of women should be adequately taken care of on priority. Devotees, pilgrims and common people visiting the Chhath Puja ghats should not be left in the lurch”.
“Party workers should come out, volunteer and participate in the celebration of Chhath Puja. Party workers can be given disaster management training and they can be deployed along Yamuna, canals and other water bodies in all the districts of Delhi”, he added.
Shri Goel will launch ‘Swachhta Abhiyaan’ on banks of river Yamuna on Chhath Puja and will make an appeal to all responsible citizens to not litter around ghats and maintain cleanliness while performing puja.
