On the occasion of Hockey Wizard Major Dhyanchand’s 112th birth anniversary today, the nation is commemorating National Sports Day with zeal and vigour. Sports Minister Vijay Goel joined by MoS (Home Affairs) Kiren Rijiju paid tribute to the hockey legend at the Dhaynchand National Stadium in Delhi. Goel said that the recently launched National Sports Talent Search Portal will provide uniqueopportunity to anyone above the age of 8 years to register and upload their bio-data or videos of their achievements and the talented ones will be shortlisted by the Ministry to impart them further training.
Sports Vijay Goel said, “We are honoured that PM Sh. Narendra Modi ji hailed this initiative and mentioned about it during his Mann Ki Baat on 27th August.” “PM is a sports lover and has always encouraged sports and sportspersons”, Goel added. He further stated that the portal and the mobile app will now empower any talented sportsperson to reach out to us and we will provide them the opportunity to play and shine after proper assessment of his talent and skills.
Goel also stressed the need to integrate sports in school curriculum and also emphasized on the need to upgrade the working of SAI according to today’s needs and aspirations. Goel said that the portal will act as a medium to boost India’s medal prospects as it will provide a great platform to budding sportspersons to channelize their skills in the right direction. Kiren Rijiju said that being a fitness enthusiast, he supports the dynamic and proactive plans of the Sports Ministry to provide equal opportunity to budding sportspersons across the country.
