Goel, Shekhawat and Ritu Beri participates in ‘ No to Plastic ‘ Campaign
Looking at the ill effects of plastic we should stop the usage of single use plastic – Shikhavat
New Delhi, 27 September, 2019: Member of Parliament and Former Union Minister Shi Vijay Goel started the ‘Selfie with the Plastic Man ‘ programme under the ‘ No to Plastic’ campaign. The programme was inaugurated by Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and famous fashion designer Ritu Beri. Lok Abhiyan, the social organization led by Shri Vijay Goel has been organizing awareness programme for ‘No to plastic campaign’ along with social and political activists across Delhi.
The highlight of the programme was the effigy made out of waste plastic bottles developed by Vidyun Goel, director of a non-profit organization The Toy Bank. Vidyun talked about the harmful effects of plastic on our body. Students should be made aware of ill effects of plastic usage, so that they are aware of the harmful effects of plastic for childhood.
Goel said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been continuously running Socially relevant campaigns like Swatch Bharat Abhiyan , Beti Bachao – Beti padao , ‘ Building Toilets etc. Similary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants a ‘ No to Single Use Plastic’.
Goel said that the per capita plastic consumption in India is 11 Kg per person. The usage of plastic is worrisome because of there is no mechanism to properly dispose the plastic without harming the environment. The decomposition of plastic takes more than 400 years, and during this period that plastic starts releasing harmful gases leading to soil erosion.
Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said that the usage of single use plastic has increased a lot due to the convenience it provides. The poisonous substances which are released by the plastic leads to harmul effects on the human body. Today, plastic has become one of the leading causes of Water Pollution. By 2030, there would be more plastic in the Ocean than the aquatic animals. Every year approx. 10 crore aquatic animals die because of water pollution.
Famous designer, Ritu Beri said that everybody should refuse usage of plastic. She said that her daughter who is 12 years old refuses to use anything made out of plastic and everybody should support the ‘ No to Plastic’ campaign.
Goel said that he would encourage celebrities from various field to join the ‘No to Plastic ‘Campaign.
