Statement issued by Shri Vijay Goel MP and President of Heritage India Foundation at a Press Conference held on 11th Dec 2015, New Delhi

New Delhi, December 11, 2015: Shahazhanabad, Old Delhi is a 400 year-old heritage that was getting dilapidated by the day. In order to draw attention to its deteriorating condition the Save Heritage – Save Chandni Chowk “Heritage Marathon” is being organized on the 13th Dec 2015 at 10am. The marathon will commence from Dharampura, Jama Masjid Gate no. 7.The route to be followed thereafter is Dariba Fountain Chowk, Town Hall, Fatehpuri and finally Khari Baoli Chowk. This marathon will be led by the Heritage India Foundation President, Shri Vijay Goel, MoS PMO Shri Jitender Singh, MP Shri Manoj Tiwari, Shri Chandan Mitra, Mayor Ravindra Gupta, MCD Commissioner P.K. Gupta etc. Members of Parliament from Delhi are especially requested to join in this endeavor.

Shahazhanabad, Old Delhi has nearly 525 havelis that were constructed in that 19th and 20th century. The architecture in these havelis has had the influence of Hindu, Mughal, British and European art. These structures are the center of a lot of attention, yet almost all of them are in a pathetic condition. Despite the government declaring these structures as ‘protected’, no major steps are being taken and only inspector raj is being practiced.

Goel said that Shahazhanabad Development Board has no power and no vision for changing the sorry situation of Chandni chowk and feels more power should be given to it for it to take any stern steps.

He further mentioned that even today there is so much space in Chandni Chowk, that a 40 acre park can be constructed. But, the only requirement is good administration. As more than 30% of the houses are either unoccupied or unused, a law needs to come into place to combat the situation. Most buildings are prone to accidents as they are in a extremely dangerous condition.

He also added that there is a major traffic jam problem in this area as there is absolute absence of traffic planning. Worsening the situation is the presence of wholesale markets. A huge number of rickshaws and e – rickshaws have taken over the tracks and thus leaving no space for pedestrians. Where 200 rickshaws should ideally be present, 2000 are! As a result of this mess, neither the public can enjoy nor the rickshaw drivers can earn their living.

Goel also points out the huge problem of unauthorized construction in Chandni Chowk. Illegal construction is being practiced even at the havelis that have been declared ‘protected’ by the government.

Old Delhi and New Delhi railway stations in themselves can be labeled as heritage buildings. There is absolutely no administration there. The evidence being, running of roadside stalls, restaurants etc., right outside the main gates of the railway stations.

As thick electric wires keep dangling at random spots, nobody can say that Delhi is the national capital and Chandni Chowk it’s heart. Foreign tourists are amused by the fact that such a type of city exists where there are open wires, constant traffic jams and encroachments. Neither the Centre government, Delhi government and nor the MCD has any substantial scheme to revive the city of Old Delhi.

Goel further mentioned that he will continue with his efforts through the medium of Heritage India Foundation and if any of the government bodies need support, he would be more than willing to help. He already has  begun with efforts in Dharampura area (near Jama Masjid) so that whenever a foreign tourist visits tourist spots such as Jama Masjid, Jain temples or Havelis, he/she can take back an encouraging picture of the capital.

The marathon is being organized with the support of RWA and local shopkeepers and a committee has also been established for the same. The conveners of the same are Suman Gupta and Jai Prakash and the co – conveners are Ajay Bhardwai, Shyam Singh and Dhruv.

Goel congratulated ABVP on their huge victory in DUSU elections

Rajya Sabha MP and former BJP Delhi President Shri Vijay Goel today congratulated the Delhi University students for the huge victory of ABVP in Delhi University elections. Goel has earlier been the President of DUSU.
Goel said that the youth and students who had come forward to support the AAP government in Delhi six months back are now feeling disillusioned with the Delhi government. The way AAP govt has spent money in the Delhi University elections and the way they tried to tempt the students through different freebies like reducing Metro fares, free Wi-fi, giving advertisements in newspapers about students’ loans and not paying rent for paying guests in colonies have not gone well with the youth of Delhi. The Delhi students have outrightly rejected all these allurements.
Delhi University’s ABVP win has proven that the government that was created six months back in Delhi has lost its position and is now at number three. The influence of AAP party has significantly reduced among the youth of the country.
Shri Goel also said that the win has shown that students and workers have faith in the policies and development programmes of Shri Narendra Modi. The youth and students want to take the country ahead and this is the sole reason why they are supporting Modi and allied organizations.
Goel has congratulated the youth and wishes that the elected representatives will live upto the responsibilities they have been entrusted with and they will certainly come forward to solve the problems of the students.

Modi has ended UPA gloom, says Vijay Goel

: Former Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Vijay Goel took out a ‘Vikaas Yatra’ today on the achievements of Modi government where thousands of people gathered to be a part of it. People from more than hundreds of organizations and party workers enthusiastically participated in the event. The volunteers who participated in the ‘Vikaas Yatra’ held placards in their hands about the social schemes of Modi government. The gathering was addressed by National General Secretary (Org) Shri Ramlal ji, MP Shri Mahesh Giri, MP Smt. Meenakshi Lekhi, Sh Vijay Kumar Malhotra, Sh. Mange Ram Garg and Delhi Mayor.
Shri Goel said we need to make sure that the social schemes initiated by the Modi government reach every single household of the country. Congress party has not done any work in the past ten years and now hassled by the achievements of Modi government in the past one year, it is trying to mislead the people.
Shri Goel also said that there are five distinct works done by Modi government, the government took fast decisions, marked an end to corruption, inflation, initiated new schemes for the common man and overall ended the hopeless environment in the country.
Shri Ramlal ji said that it is the first time that a government has done so much work in the first year and all surveys are clearly indicating that people are happy with the work of Modi government in the past one year and want the development work by the government to continue. Shri Ramlal ji also said that the there is a misleading campaign going on against the land acquisition bill. It is for the first time that farmers are being compensated well for the loss in the damage of crops.

Kejriwal should pay more attention to ‘vikaas’ than ‘vivaad’

Former Delhi BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Shri Vijay Goel said that Arvind Kejriwal hurriedly made baseless allegations against the central government at the press conference. He is unnecessarily trying to politicize the issue and trying to entangle Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the same.
It is sad that, on one hand, he says that he will get the notification examined and seek advise from the Constitution experts and on the other, without getting the notification examined and without seeking advise, in a rush, he has targeted the central government.
Through this notification, the government does not want him to interfere in the matters of the central government. The central government has already waged a war against the menace of corruption. Now he is involved in a constitutional row with the Lieutenant-Governor. In order to hide the failures of his government, he is unnecessarily blaming others. He has lost the trust of the bureaucrats and officers and by saying that the whole transfer-posting industry is corrupt; he is calling all the officers ‘corrupt’.
The Delhi chief minister should pay attention to ‘vikaas’ of Delhi and not ‘vivaad’. This issue is related to the constitution and is not political in nature. We are asking for the full statehood of Delhi because Delhi doesn’t have any rights.

Goel urges for the simplification of the Income Tax forms

Former BJP Delhi President and MP Shri Vijay Goel during the Zero Hour in Rajya Sabha today appealed that the Income Tax forms need to be simplified.
He said, “The income tax forms are 14page long and require unnecessary information including details of all bank accounts and foreign travels. This impinges on the privacy of tax payers.”
The income tax forms, ITR-1 and ITR-2 require to furnish the number of bank accounts held by the individual including opened or closed, with the last balance in the account as on 31 March of the concluded fiscal year. The person is also required to furnish the name of the bank, account number, address, IFSC code and joint holder’s name.
With regard to foreign travel, the form seeks details of the passport number, place of issuance, countries visited, number of times visited and expenses incurred in case of a resident taxpayer.
This is harassing for tax payers and makes filing tax returns a headache. Shri Goel urged that the form should be a two page document in a simplified manner which will help all taxpayers. Further, he said that other forms also need to be simplified on the same pattern for the benefit of people.
