Vijay Goel lambasts union Food Minister, Congress CM and Ministers for unabated misuse of official machinery

The  Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party President Shri Vijay Goel today  lambasted the Congress led UPA government for mooting a proposal to rename the existing Targeted Public Distribution System as Indiraamma Anna Yojana Shri Goel said this is a blatant attempt by Congress to get political mileage from national resources and the BJP will oppose any such move. The BJP will not allow Congress to hijack the national resources for petty political gains.

The Union food minister K.V. Thomas have recently said on record that there is a proposal to rename the existing Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) and the government is considering renaming it as Indiramma Anna Yojana.

Shri Goel said, “Right now no new announcements regarding renaming of the scheme after a particular political leader belonging to any political party can be made, yet the Congress leaders are attempting to violate these norms. The Election Commission should take note of this and take strict action against the Union Food Minister for going public with such comments.”

The Union Food Minister’s statement, at a time when election code of conduct is in force, is against the spirit of democratic norms and the Congress seems to desperate to misuse its position by naming a system meant for the poor in one of its own leaders’ name.

Shri Goel said the latest step is not a standalone case. In the last few days the Congress has been blatantly misusing government resources. He expressed concern that the Election Commission is adopting a very lenient approach when it comes to violation of poll guidelines by Congress leaders.”

“We are concerned that the Election Commission seems to be quite soft on poll guidelines violations by Congress. We demand strict  and immediate action  in such instances,” said Shri Goel.

“The BJP had recently pointed out the printing of photographs of CM and Power Minister on thousands of BSES bills. After that the BSES, which has 49% stake of Delhi government, accepted this was violation of poll guidelines yet it has been let off the hook with no action taken against anyone.

The Election Commission should penalize all those who were involved in violation of these norms by BSES. There is no action visible on the ground. The BJP will take up this matter further as it wants strict action against those who are working hand in glove with Congress government for misuse of official machinery, said Shri Goel.

The Delhi BJP President also pointed out that the Chief Minister’s official residence is being used for political press conferences. “We would like to know why no action is being taken by the Election Commission to stop this misuse of official machinery. The BJP demands that the misuse of official residence of CM should be immediately stopped and action should be initiated against CM and her three ministers who are holding regular press conferences there.”

BJP’s vision is to make plans for next 20 years in key areas : Vijay Goel

The Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel today lambasted the Congress government for mismanagement of Delhi. He said the latest Delhi High Court order indicting Congress government for absence of planning in all spheres of governance vindicates BJP’s stand that Congress government has ruined Delhi turning it into slum and rape capital. The BJP’s vision comprises long term planning for at least next 20 years in all key areas such as power, water, education, health, urban planning, housing, women safety etc.

In the last 15 years, the Delhi High Court has entertained more than 300 writ petitions on people’s issues and issued directions to the Delhi government to redress those issues.

Shri Goel said, “The BJP stands vindicated after Delhi High Court’s order holding Delhi government responsible for the mismanagement of the city. The BJP has been saying for long that the Congress government in Delhi has neglected key issues like women safety, power, water, sewage, education, health, roads, development in unauthorized colonies and rehabilitation of slum dwellers.”

“Despite announcements of spending Rs. 2800 crore, there is lack of basic amenities in the unauthorized colonies. The water supply and sewage system is non-existent and PWD roads are full of potholes. More than Rs. 3000 crore has gone down the drain every year in the name of maintenance of PWD roads whose condition remain pathetic leading to massive traffic jams, accidents and water logging.”

All the major roads of Delhi are full of potholes and the monsoon recently exposed the tall claims made by the Congress government. The Chief Minister ironically was offering prayers to the rain god to resolve this problem which is actually the result of corruption and inefficiency.

The Delhi Jal Board, whose chairperson is the Chief Minister, fails to provide clean drinking water to nearly half of the city dwellers. There is 40% leakage of the piped drinking water indicating widespread mismanagement.

The power sector is the classic example of mismanagement and corruption writ large under the Congress government. Delhi could have afforded a 25-30% less power tariff but the present government has stalled such moves by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission in collusion with the power discoms.

Advice on onions from Maharashtra CM exposes inefficiency of Delhi CM: Goel

Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel today slammed the Delhi government for its inaction despite soaring prices of onions in the city while the vegetables are vanishing from common man’s plates. He said that the advice from Maharashtra Chief Minister to Delhi Chief Minister exposes the inefficiency of the Congress government.

The Maharashtra CM had advised Delhi CM to buy onions directly from Nasik to control prices in Delhi. But the onion prices continue to soar indicating no action has been initiated on ground.

Addressing party workers of the Outer Delhi district, South-West district and Keshavpuram district, Shri Goel said, “The party will take up the issue of onion crisis at booth level in all 14 BJP districts. The BJP will expose the inaction of Congress government on the issue of onion crisis and rising prices of essential commodities over the next few days.”

Shri Goel said, “The Congress government is doing nothing on the ground to bring down the prices of onions and other vegetables in Delhi. It is only paying lip service and taking cosmetic measures to pile up on common man’s woes. For several months people of Delhi have been suffering due to unprecedented increase in prices of onions and other vegetables in the city.”

Shri Goel said, “The Congress government was in deep slumber even though another state government suggested it a few days ago to purchase onions from Nashik and sell in Delhi to reduce prevailing prices. The government must explain why did it not act on its own earlier?”

The Congress seems to be in the business of window-dressing over the issue of rising prices. Earlier, it claimed to sell onions through government’s outlets, which vanished much before they were officially closed by the Congress government. Those invisible outlets benefited none among the masses.

Shri Goel further said, “The Congress government claimed that onions are sold through Safal outlets. But, for a population of over 1.67 crores in Delhi, there are only about 350 Safal outlets, which is grossly insufficient. It has been a common experience that whatever onions arrive at these stores, it vanishes within an hour or so and even the quality of onions is bad."

Moreover, even the Safal outlets are selling onions at a price around Rs. 65-70 a kg, which is unaffordable for common man in Delhi. Other vegetables are also in the high pricing zone with none of the regular vegetables available below Rs. 50 a kg in retail markets in Delhi. Even potatoes are selling around Rs. 40 a kg. The festival season is around and the prices of these vegetable are not showing any trend of decline and the Congress government is completely insensitive.

Shri Vijay Goel welcomes announcement of Dr. Harshvardhan as BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party President Shri Vijay Goel today welcomed the announcement of Dr. Harshavardhan as BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate for Delhi polls.  Shri Goel said, “The Party is unitedly fighting the assembly polls to defeat Congress and will form the new government. The BJP is the most viable and preferred alternative to Congress which has set up new records of mis-governance, corruption and anti-people policies in the city over the last 15 years.”

Meanwhile, slamming the Delhi Chief Minister for misleading people of Delhi on the issues of employment generation and development in Delhi, Shri Goel said the Delhi Chief Minister’s claim of providing more employment in Delhi is completely misleading. In fact, the Delhi Police statistics clearly show that on an average everyday one unemployed person commits suicide in Delhi.

Shri Goel further said, “The Congress government is spreading false sense of prosperity and well-being in Delhi by projecting misleading employment figures in the city. According to the latest report of the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, the unemployment rate in Delhi is 57 per thousand which is one of the highest in the country.

The fact is that the rate of unemployment in Delhi has gone up since 1998. Even according to the Delhi Development Report of the Congress government, the rate of unemployment was 3.6% in 1999-2000 just after the BJP demitted office while it is 4.0% today under the Congress regime. This is due to the gross mismanagement of economy and widespread corruption in the rank and file of the Congress government.

The Congress government makes tall claims about reducing the number of unemployed persons in Delhi. But, its own figures suggest that the absolute number of unemployed people has increased in the city. The government’s policies have affected the well-being of the citizens adversely, which is reflected in the rising incidents of suicides by unemployed people and even students.

The Delhi Chief Minister misrepresented facts about BJP ruled states with misleading figures while the Union government’s reports project a totally different picture of the BJP ruled states. According to the latest Annual Employment & Unemployment Survey report for 2012-13 released by Labour Bureau under Union Ministry of Labour and Employment, Chhattisgarh has the lowest rate of unemployment in the country. The BJP ruled states have one of the lowest rates of unemployment in the country.

Chhattisgarh has an unemployment rate of 14 per thousand, Madhya Pradesh 22 per thousand while Gujarat 27 per thousand. These figures are well below than the unemployment rate for the country at 47 per thousand and much below than the figures for Delhi, whose Chief Minister is leading the misleading campaign.

According to a recent government survey on the basis of Delhi Police statistics, there have been five suicides every day last year with an unemployed person unfailingly being among the daily tally. Of the total 1899 suicides registered during 2012, the highest number was of those who were unemployed with 369 persons taking the extreme step. The survey also revealed that a majority, i.e. 220 of the unemployed who took to ending their lives were aged between 15 and 29 years. Equally alarming is the fact that 266 students committed suicide.

Festive spirit dampened due to skyrocketing prices and govt.’s inaction: Goel

Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel today lambasted the Congress government for total mismanagement of the prices of essential commodities in Delhi as the onions are selling at the year’s highest prices across the city. Besides onions, other staple vegetables such as potatoes and tomatoes are also selling at unprecedented prices causing lots of hardship to people of Delhi.

The wholesale price of onions has climbed to an unprecedented level and the onions sold at Rs. 65 per kg in wholesale markets on Monday. In retail, onions cost around and even above Rs. 100 per kg. For several months, onions are being sold between Rs. 70 and Rs. 90 in the city. Apart from onions, other vegetables like potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, cabbage and even green chillies are selling at very high prices in Delhi.

In a statement issued today, Shri Goel said, “The festival season is around but the Congress government has dampened the mood of festivity owing to its inept handling of the price situation. The vegetable prices, particularly on onions, in Delhi have increased by over 30% just over the last one week.”

Shri Goel further said, “At several places in Delhi, onion prices have crossed Rs. 90-100 per kg rate. As the government has taken no concrete step to mitigate prices, the situation is likely to worsen further in the coming days.”

“The overall production of onions this year has been estimated 10-15% higher than the last year. This means, we have enough onions for people, but the Congress government has been doing nothing to ensure supply of the vegetable even though demand has been persistent and people have been complaining about high prices due to lack of adequate supply of onions,” Shri Goel said.

Delhi's onion consumption is about 800 tonnes per day. On Monday, 1,200-1,300 bags of onion, weighing about 90 tonnes, arrived at the Azadpur wholesale market. This means there is a gap of about 710 tonnes of onions for daily consumption in Delhi. This is a reflection of the absence of planning by Delhi government. The situation with other vegetables is equally bad. This state of affairs is the result of total collapse of administration in Delhi under the Congress regime.

Goel challenges the Chief Minister to reply to BJP’s questions

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party President Shri Vijay Goel today slammed the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for belittling growth in Gujarat and making false claims regarding development of Delhi.

Addressing a press conference today Shri Goel said, “The Delhi BJP had raised 15 questions earlier to which Congress could not respond.  Today we are releasing another list of 15 questions which exposed Chief Minister’s claims. We challenge the Chief Minister to reply to these questions and come out with the truth.”

According to Delhi Development Report, 2013, half of the population living in the JJ Clusters in Delhi does not have the tiolet facility on their premises. Will the Congress government explain that why Delhi spent so much of money if it was not receive even a single drop of water from the Munak Canal?

In 2012, the CBI unearthed a multi-crore Anti-biotic Shots scam in the Delhi government will the Congress government explain how did it carry out the scam?

The Delhi government had announced a target of benefiting 5,74,428 persons under the Annashree Scheme, but as the information came out in May, 2013 the number of beneficiaries under the scheme was only 7,220. Will the Congress government explain that if the Annashree scheme has benefited only 7,220 persons, why the government is claiming to have benefited 62,500 persons?

When the Bus Cluster Scheme was launched in 2011, the Delhi government had said that 11,000 buses would be pressed into service out of which 60% would be under the Private Bus Cluster Scheme and rest under the DTC. But, suddenly in 2012, the Transport Minister changed the DTC-Private bus cluster ratio to 60-40. Will the Congress government explain why was this done and also, that while it was promised to deploy 1000 such buses by December 2012, why only 500 buses have been deployed till now?

According to the Delhi government, Rs. 3,000 are spent on the repair of roads in the city, despite the roads are dotted with ditches. In the run up to the Commonwealth Games, several roads were built with a guarantee of 5 years, but they gave way in merely 2-3 years. The Congress government gave new contracts to the same contractors instead of blacklisting them. Will it explain why?

The Delhi Chief Minister had promised in 2007 to build a 750-bed super specialty hospital in Dwarka. Will the Congress government explain as to why Asia’s largest sub-city with a population of over 5 lakh does not have a government hospital even 6 years after the promise made to the residents by the Chief Minister?

22 JJ Clusters and slums were uprooted and people living there displaced for the construction of Commonwealth Games Village. Out of all the displaced families, only 20% have been rehabilitated and that too with almost no basic civic amenities in Bawana. Will the Congress government explain where are the homes of rest 80% of the displaced families?

The Congress government of Delhi makes tall claims about power supply in Delhi, but an Assocham report said that between May and July industrial output had to be cut down by 25-45% due to frequent power cuts in several industrial areas of Delhi. Will the Congress government explain how did such a situation arise?

In 2008, the Congress government of Delhi had promised to provide 60,000 houses to the poor under Rajiv Ratna Awas Yojana. But, will the Congress government explain as to why only about 15,000 houses have been built and why not even a single house has been allotted to the targeted beneficiaries?

A large number of people interacted with Sh. Goel in Civil Lines during visit to the houses located in the area. Sh. Goel carried with him booklets, pamphlets and other publicity materials that not only highlight the failures of the Congress government during its 15-year misrule in Delhi, but presented BJP’s vision for Delhi..

The mass contact programme will be undertaken in all these Mandals by the BJP cadres till October 21. The objective of programme is to give a further fillip to the BJP’s campaign by connecting with every household in the city.

The crack team will also be carrying the literature to highlight the complete absence of governance under Congress in Delhi.”

Shri Goel said, “Our focus during the door-to-door campaign will be on reminding people of the misrule by the Congress in the last 15 years. At the same time, we will be putting forth the alternative positive agenda for Delhi, which has witnessed deterioration in its status under the Congress government. The BJP, when elected to power, will provide corruption-free development in Delhi.”

The Congress government has failed on all fronts in the last 15 years and has been involved in a plethora of scams. The people of Delhi want to get rid of the thoroughly corrupt regime of the Congress, which has caused lots of hardship to the residents of the city due to high cost of living on the account of unprecedented price rise, very high power and water tariffs, all pervasive corruption and total lack of safety of women and children in Delhi.

The Delhi BJP President has challenged the Delhi Government and the Chief Minister with 15 questions marks on the     15-years’ misrule. The Delhi government has no answer to any of the questions, which have exposed the Congress completely. With the door-to-door campaign, the galvanized cadres of the BJP will further expose the misrule of the Congress in every nook and corner of Delhi at the household level.

Scared Congress is running away from Accountability Commission: Goel

The Delhi BJP today lambasted the corruption riddled Congress government and said it is running away from setting up of Accountability Commission as proposed by the BJP. The party said that the Congress ministers today rejected the idea of Accountability Commission for Delhi as Congress knows that its reign of corruption will be exposed by the Accountability Commission.

Issuing a statement today, the Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, “The Congress is opposing it as it is scared that the Accountability Commission will fix responsibility for scams carried out by the government in the last 15 years. Congress knows that many of those patronized and shielded by its government will land up in jails once Accountability Commission is set up for Delhi.”

He reiterated that the next government, formed by the BJP, will set up the Accountability Commission, which will look into the cases of corruption and irregularities effected during the 15-year misrule by the Congress government and hold people involved accountable for their wrongdoings.”

Meanwhile, the Delhi BJP President slammed the Congress ministers for misleading the people on issue of power, education and water.

Power

The Congress ministers have made wrong claims regarding power situation in Delhi. The ministers’ excuse that the power purchase cost is very high and hence cheaper electricity cannot be provided to people in Delhi is misleading. The power purchase cost is high for Delhi because of the collusion between the Congress government and the power discoms.

The BJP will reduce power tariff by 30% by removing the malpractices in power purchase and distribution in Delhi. The BJP will introduce competition among the power discoms, provide separate neutral to every household, bring transparency in the functioning of power discoms and rework power purchase agreements.

Water

Congress ministers are misleading people by claiming that drinking water supply is available to 95% of the city. The CAG has clearly stated in its report that over 40% areas of Delhi does not get drinking water from the Delhi Jal Board. The Delhi government is, in fact, working hand in glove with the tanker mafia of the city.

Education

The Congress ministers have failed to mention that there has been a sharp decline in the opportunities for higher education as no new college has been set up in the last 15 years in DU by Delhi government. The BJP government during 1993-98 had set up five new colleges, established Indraprastha University and set up Directorate of Education to promote higher education and technical education. When elected to power, the BJP will bring back higher education in focus of the Delhi government, open an online university, provide relaxation of 5% marks for students of Delhi and open new colleges.

Accountability Commission will look into all corruption cases of last 15 years also: Goel

In pursuance of its commitment to ensure accountable and transparent administration in Delhi, a Delhi BJP delegation led by the state unit president Shri Vijay Goel today called on the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and urged him to take necessary steps for setting up an Accountability Commission for Delhi immediately.

The Accountability Commission will ensure that where ever tax payers money is wasted due to delay or irregularities in projects, the minister and the officials concerned are held accountable.

Addressing a joint press conference today along with the Mayors and leaders of MCDs after meeting the LG, Shri Goel said, “The BJP wants an accountable administration in Delhi and with this objective in mind, the party is asking for setting up of the Accountability Commission. The Commission will look into all the cases of corruption and irregularities in delivering services to people in the last 15 years.”

Outlining the concept of Accountability Commission proposed by Dellhi BJP, Shri Goel said, Accountability Commission shall be an anti-corruption watch-dog and the nodal agency for combating corruption in the entire machinery of governance. It will look into all the complaints of corruption and to inquire into the grievances and allegations against public functionaries including the ministers.

The Accountability Commission will address the complaints and grievances of people with regard to delivery of services to people within stipulated time. It will also look into the cases of corruption or any other irregularity in delivering the services to people.

It would be statutory body that will look into the complaints or irregularities pointed out by the CAG, PAC, Vigilance Commission and also Lokayukta. It would be headed by a retired High Court judge or a person of proven impeccable integrity.

Shri Goel has already written letters to the Honourable Lieutenant Governor, the Delhi Chief Minister and the three Mayors of MCD urging them to take steps for setting up of the Accountability Commission.

“The Delhi government has been functioning as if no one is responsible for anything. No one is being held accountable for wrongdoings resulting into lots of hardship for the common populace living in Delhi. Accountability Commission will look into all the cases of corruption in the last 15 years,” Shri Goel said.

Shri Goel said, “Under the prevailing circumstances, setting up of an Accountability Commission is a necessity that should not be delayed on any pretext whatsoever. The Accountability Commission has done a tremendous work in several countries across the globe from New Zealand to Mexico.”

Australia, New Zealand, Brunei, China, South Korea, Thailand, Peru, Mexico, Bulgaria and many other countries have shown the way with Accountability Commission in combating corruption and delivering services to people in their respective countries.

People have hugely benefited from the Accountability Commission in these countries as their complaints are addressed and grievances resolved by the Accountability Commission to their satisfaction.

“Why cannot we take a clue from the successful functioning of the Accountability Commission in these countries and set up the Accountability Commission for Delhi, and restore people’s faith in the functioning of the institutions of government,” asked Shri Goel.

The Delhi BJP delegation that met Lieutenant Governor comprised Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Azad Singh, Mayor of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Smt. Sarita Chaudhary, Mayor of East Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Ram Narayan Dubey, Leader of the House of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Subhash Arya, Leader of the House of North Delhi Municipal Corporation Dr. Mahinder Nagpal and Leader of the House of East Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri B B Tyagi among others.
