Only hollow promises on women safety by Congress, Rs. 1000 crore Nirbhaya Fund is lying idle: Goel

The Delhi BJP today extended its condolences to the family of Delhi University Lab Attendant who passed away this morning in a hospital succumbing to the burn injuries. It is shocking that the victim immolated herself at in front of the Chief Minister’s seat of power-Players building and the Delhi government. It is deplorable that no minister or the Chief Minister even cared to visit her.

In a joint statement issued today, the Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel and BJP National Secretary Ms. Arti Mehra said, “There is no effective mechanism for redressal of cases of sexual harassment faced by women in Delhi despite the tall claims made by both the Congress government of Delhi and the Congress-led UPA government of the Centre. The women continue to be vulnerable under the present regime.”

Shri Goel said, “The Nirbhaya Fund created after December 16 incident by the Congress-led UPA government is yet to become functional. The ministries at the Centre have been fighting to have a control of the corpus of Rs. 1000 crore. This shows that the government is not serious in its intent to address the safety concerns of women. The government is doing only lip service in ensuring safety of women.”

The delay in making Nirbhaya Fund functional exposes both the UPA government and the Congress government of Delhi. After the budget announcement, a Task Force had been constituted to create an institutional mechanism for operating the Nirbhaya fund but the Task Force met only once. The Nirbhaya Fund Task Force was wound up thereafter as the Finance Ministry and the Women and Child Development Ministry fought over control of the Rs. 1000 crore purse. The Union Home Ministry, which serves as the nodal ministry for the purpose, has done nothing on this front.

Not even a single paisa has been spent from this fund so far which was meant to work for the security of women.

“We would like to ask the Chief Minister, what has she done to make Nirbhaya fund functional? To our knowledge, she has done nothing,” said Shri Goel.

Shri Goel further said, “Delhi has seen almost 240% rise in rape cases, 495.01% rise in molestation cases and 700% rise in the cases of eve teasing this year. This shows that nothing has changed on the ground in Delhi even ten months after the Nirbhaya incident and Delhi continues to be an unsafe city for women.”

Leaders joining BJP shows there is a wave in BJP’s favour in Delhi, says Shri Vijay Goel

Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel today facilitated entry of several leaders from Congress, Janata Dal (United), BSP, and independent Councillors into the BJP. This reflects the popular mood in Delhi in favour of the BJP, which is all set to unseat the Congress party from power.

Those who joined the BJP today included the former Chandni Chowk District Congress Committee President and Councillor Shri Amod Sharma, Municipal Councillor from Mukundpur Ward of Lok Janshakti Party Shri Gulab Singh Rathor, Independent Councillor from Tigadi Ward under Deoli assembly constituency, Smt. Sarita Garba, Shri Farid Shah, who contested the municipal corporation election from Jahangirpur-2 and who was the Delhi State General Secretary of the Bahujan Samaj Party, and Janata Dal (United) Delhi State General Secretary Shri Kapoor Chand Chhikara.

Welcoming these leaders, who joined BJP unconditionally, Shri Goel said, “Coming into the BJP’s fold by these leaders makes it obvious that there is wave in favour of the BJP in Delhi. People from all sectons of society and political parties are joining the BJP in order to teach Congress a lesson.”

Shri Goel further said, “The BJP will be strengthened with the entry of these leaders. The entry of the leaders from weaker sections of society and Muslim community shows that these sections of society are reposing their faith in the BJP, whose acceptance has been fast growing among these communities.”

The BJP has seen several leaders from across the political spectrum coming to its fold in recent times. Earlier this week noted Bhojpuri singer and actor Shri Manoj Tiwari joined the BJP. Prior to this, senior leader Ramvir Singh Bidhuri along with sitting NCP Councillors Sh. Dharamveer Awana, Smt Timsy Kasana, Smt Phoolkali Narwaal joined the BJP. This was preceded by seven Councillors joining the BJP in July. They were Suresh Garg, Krishna Kumar Sehrawat, Pramod Tanwar, Rahul Prabhudayal, Chander Prakash, Pradeep Kumar and Naresh Balyan.

This trend reflects people’s growing belief that the BJP is the only credible alternative to the Congress party, which has structurally misgoverned the city during its tenure.

BJP to adopt door to door campaign to highlight Congress’s misrule: Goel

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today held a meeting for brainstorming over assembly constituency specific issues electioneering for the upcoming assembly polls in Delhi. The meeting was presided over by Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel and attended by all the 14 district unit heads of the party and senior office-bears of the State unit. The meeting took place at the party headquarters at 14, Pt Pant Marg.

It was decided in the meeting that in its election campaign the BJP will focus on the assembly constituency specific issues, which will be identified and highlighted by district units’ heads of the party in their respective regions. This process has begun with immediate effect.

Speaking after the meeting, Shri Goel said, “The party is fully geared up for the assembly polls. The focus of the election campaign will be the issues specific to each of the 70 assembly constituencies, which will be raised by the BJP through its door to door contact programme. Besides, the misrule of the Congress government will also be highlighted.”

Shri Goel further said, “The election campaign will be undertaken at various levels. At district level door to door contact programme will be conducted whereby the BJP cadres will visit every household highlighting the misrule of the Congress and the positive agenda of the BJP for the equitable all round development of Delhi. At the organizational level, mass contact programmes will be undertaken.”

The door to door contact programme has begun immediately after today’s meeting in all the 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi. There are 14 district units of the BJP and 5 assembly constituencies come under each unit. The BJP district cadres have started identifying and highlighting the issues specific to each assembly segment of Delhi.

The confident cadres of the BJP are sparing no stone unturned in mobilizing people, who have expressed a groundswell of support in the rallies and public meetings organized by the party in Delhi. The common people of Delhi want to get rid of the misrule of the present Congress government and giving tremendous response to BJP’s door to door contact programme.

Today’s brainstorming meeting of the Delhi BJP office bearers and the party’s district units’ heads follows similar meetings with party cadres in recent times. Earlier, BJP has held Karyakarta Sammelans all over the city attended by the hundreds of BJP cadres from Mandal level.

The BJP has already trained party cadres for booth level functioning for all the 11,763 polling booths in Delhi. Crack teams have been raised by the party for the booth level operations of the party work with each team comprising of 30-32 trained and committed party workers.

Congress Govt. making Delhi unaffordable for the poor:Goel

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today termed the Congress led-UPA government’s decision to provide 5 KG LPG cylinders at petrol pumps as half-baked and anti-people decision. This is yet another decision which would make living in Delhi unaffordable for the poor. The party also slammed the Congress government for making yet another ”fake” promise of providing three subsidised LPG cylinders every year to the below poverty households  at  subsidized rate.

In a statement issued today, the Delhi BJP president Shri Vijay Goel said, “It is ironical that even though the 5 KG LPG cylinder is generally used by the poor people but being made available at the market price which is out of reach for the common people. It would have been better had the government provided subsidized LPG cylinder at petrol pumps.”

Also, these cylinders will be available at on 3% of the 47000 petrol pumps all over the country. That simply implies that in Delhi these cylinders would be rarely available.   And wherever they are available they would be out of reach of the poor people as they are being sold at the market price.

Shri Goel said, “In fact, the poor are not getting three subsidized LPG cylinders which were promised with much fanfare by Delhi government. They have to buy LPG cylinders at market price which has completely upset their household budgets.” The Delhi government had announced in January this year that it would provide three additional LPG cylinders to the BPL families every week. But the promise is yet to materialise.

“With prices of vegetables, foodgrains, edible oil and all other basic items soaring high, a large number of lower middle incomes families are being pushed below poverty line in Delhi. What is making situation worst is that the Delhi government is not issuing ration cards to the common people in the city. The result is that there is no cushion available to them.”

“Ironically, those who have been issued ration cards are also suffering due to an inefficient and corrupt PDS in the city. Delhi PDS is one of the most corrupt PDS in the country and the most inefficient too. The fact is that the Food Security Scheme has already fallen flat on its face even before it started functioning despite launched with much fanfare.”

The Delhi BJP, when it comes to power, will ensure that those living in slums and the BPL families must get not only ration cards but are able to avail of the entitlements due to them. “Merely announcing entitlements won’t do as the Congress government has been doing,“ said Shri Goel.

Shri Vijay Goel inaugurates Community Center dedicated to Shaheed Mohan Chand Sharma

The community center in Sector 12, Dwarka was today named Shaheed Mohan Chand Sharma Community Center after slain Delhi Police officer Mohan Chand Sharma who lost his life in an anti-terrorist operation in September 2008 following the Delhi serial blasts. The community center which comes under the South Delhi Zone of the SDMC, was inaugurated by Delhi State BJP President Vijay Goel. Paying homage to the Late officer Goel said, "no Delhite can ever forget the martyrdom of Mohan Chand Sharma who lost his life in the operation against terrorists hiding in Batla House in the Jamia Nagar locality. It is sad that petty political considerations have worked to discredit the operation."

The presence of the slain officer's family lent a special poignance to the inaugural function which saw the presence of Subhash Arya, leader of the house in SDMC and Standing Committee Chairman Rajesh Gehlot.

Voicing the local residents' concerns Goel added, "Dwarka is known to be the largest group          co-operative housing township in Asia but the Delhi government has been giving it step-motherly treatment."  He announced that within the next ten days SDMC will have installed a semi high mast light, four benches and swings for children in each of the residential societies. He reminded his audience that five fully air-conditioned banquet halls have recently been commissioned in the area.

Agreeing that the Delhi Government treats Co-operative group housing societies as a second rate organization Mr. Goel pointed out that the society pays the highest rates for electricity bills for street lights and common area lights while in other areas the government itself foots the bill. Even for the booster pumps used for pumping water in the multi-storied buildings, the CGHS society pays five to six times the normal rate for electricity.

Goel pointed out that the SDMC has no right to levy house tax from this society since it uses its own funds to maintain its parks and common areas but the SDMC has its hands tied since the public representatives are not allowed to use their LADS funds here. He appealed to the LG that elected public representatives be allowed to use their LADS funds here.  Shri Goel assured that BJP on coming to power in Delhi we will ensure that CGHS will be given facilities as par with rest of Delhi and will make them world class living societies in this regard Shri Goel assured that BJP will release a comprehensive white paper on issues relating to Co-operative group housing societies.

Moral victory for BJP, Congress relenting under intense pressure from BJP on reservation in colleges : Goel

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party President Shri Vijay Goel today said that the BJP has scored a major moral victory on the issue of providing reservation in colleges to students passing from Delhi schools.

“We have been raising this demand for the last many years and our pressure has compelled the Delhi government to initiate this move,” said Shri Goel in a statement issues today.

“This is a major victory for the BJP’s long standing movement to provide reservation in Delhi colleges for students passing out of Delhi schools.”

Shri Goel said that there is ample evidence on the record that we have raised this issue for the last three years. The Congress had not shown any concern about this till now.  “In the past we have held demonstrations demanding reservation for Delhi students, we have also approached the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University and other authorities for the same.”

The Delhi BJP President has written to the VC of DU regarding this in the past (scanned copy of letter attached). The BJP had also released Delhi Declaration on June 24,“State of Higher Education” clearly raising  this issue.

“When we started raising this demand, Congress government did not respond but now after the Vikas Rally of Sept. 29, it realized that the youth of the city feel betrayed by the Congress government’s apathy towards them. Their overwhelming support to the BJP  in this rally and prior to that has come as a shocker to the Congress and as a last ditch effort it is trying to save the day prior to the assembly polls.”

Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel today inaugurated the Jogging Track at Qudsia Bagh in north Delhi as part of the efforts to redeem the lost glory of the medieval garden built by Qudsia Begum, the wife of Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah Rangeela in 1748. The former inauguration by Shri Goel was the culmination of a process that began with the creation of Facebook Page, “Qudsia Bagh” in Febraury this year to create awareness about the historical garden in Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Goel said, “I have been among the regular visitors of the Qudsia Bagh and the dilapidated condition of the garden has been a matter of concern for many. It is important to restore and preserve the historical value and charm of the garden.”

Call for restoration and revival of the Qudsia Bagh began with concerned citizens and morning walkers at the garden raising concerns for the welfare of Qudsia Bagh.  A meeting was called on April 12, 2013 to discuss these concerns with Authorities of MCD, Mayor and the Standing Committee Chairman. Shri Vijay Goel was invited for the meeting.

It was decided in the meeting that the concerns relating to the revival and upkeep of Qudsia Bagh to suit the modern day requirements of citizens should be taken care of by forming a Society involving all authorities and morning walkers from the adjoining areas.

BJP will present a new development model for Delhi, says Shri Vijay Goel

The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to expose the misrule of Congress in Delhi during last 15 years in the Vikas Rally on September 29. The party will highlight  Delhi specific issues in this rally  which is going to be addressed by  BJP’s Prime Ministerial Candidate Shri Narendar Modi, Delhi Election in-charge and former national BJP President Shri Nitin Gadkari, Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel and Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra. The Congress government is scared of the massive response this rally has got and hence it is creating obstructions in putting up hoardings, posters etc.”

“The focus of this Vikas Rally is to a great extent on the development of Delhi. This rally will give voice to millions of Delhi’ites who are awaiting development even after 15 years of Congress rule. The BJP ruled states such as Gujarat, Chattisgrah, Madhya Pradesh and Goa have presented new development models. The BJP would implement similar models in Delhi when it comes to power.”

Prof.  Malhotra said, “Tomorrow’s rally will expose Congress’ hollow claims on the issue of inflation, corruption and lack of development in Delhi. The city has been turned into a slum during last 15 years by the Congress government.”
